Snack Time- No Bake Energy Bites!

Looking for a quick and easy snack to keep in your fridge? These energy bites are pretty simple and easily customizable! They are a delicious snack for any time of day and a great energy boost. Due to the amount of protein, healthy fats, and fibre in these balls, you won’t need to eat many to fill up quickly!

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup of peanut butter
  • 1 ½ cup of rolled oats
  • 3 tbsp chia seeds
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips
  • 3 tbsp honey

Instructions:

  1. Mix everything together in a big bowl and stir until well combined.
  2. Refrigerate for at least thirty minutes (this will help your balls retain their shape and to be less sticky when rolling)
  3. Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls, roughly about 1-2 tbsps.
  4. Enjoy!

These tasty snacks are great for breakfast, after a stretching routine, or whenever you begin to feel peckish. The nice thing about this recipe is that it is very flexible, which allows for a lot of variation.

If your mixture is not sticking together well, add more peanut butter. If your balls are too sticky to handle after the fridge, be sure to add more oats. You can also substitute flax seeds for the chia seeds or maple syrup for the honey. These protein balls are easily adapted to what you have around the kitchen.

Fun variations of energy bites:

Swap for peanut butter.

You can swap peanut butter out for any seed or nut butter- just be conscious that the flavours will change, so be sure to keep tasting as you mix!

Go coconutty!

Depending on how much coconut flavour you want in your balls, you can replace some of the oats with coconut flour. You can also roll the balls in toasted or shredded coconut for a nice tropical hint. Here is a coconut chocolate recipe using dates and a food processor!

Trail mix time.

Get creative! Mix your favourite nuts, dried fruit, and yogurt chips into your balls. You might need more peanut butter to hold it all together, but only add it in little bits at a time. Want a recipe to follow for trail mix energy bites?

Be fancy.

Instead of regular chocolate chips, use white chocolate and dried berries for a prestigious flavour!

Experiment!

Since there is no baking involved, you can create whichever mixes you desire most. Be inspired by flavours and snacks around your kitchen.

Finding recipes that you enjoy is one of the first steps on your journey to good health.

Finding a variety of recipes you like is one of the best ways to encourage a healthy lifestyle. When you have dishes and snacks on hand that are easy to make and good for you, (like these snack energy bites,) you become less likely to binge on other foods that don't have the same nutritional value.

A great way to encourage better eating habits is to create a list of your favourite dishes and to find recipes for each. You gain greater satisfation from eating when you are able to relish the act of creation. The other benefit to making your own food is that you have full control over the amount of sugars you add.

When you mean plan, ensure that you take snacks and treats into account. Many intuitive eaters and dieters know that by allowing yourself to enjoy eating, you prevent overeating and you are able to find more enjoyment in your daily life.
